Texas Public Information Act
Our attorneys have worked with numerous clients in revising policies and procedures related to best practices in compliance with this important transparency law, as well as the management of, at times, seemingly overwhelming requests for public information. Our attorneys frequently request rulings from the Attorney General’s Office concerning records requests seeking confidential information and assist clients in compliance with letter rulings, mandatory redactions to public information, and seeking the recovery of costs and/or clarification regarding voluminous requests. The Firm has also successfully defended against the public disclosure of documents in state court litigation, in which a client challenged a ruling from the Attorney General’s Office. The Firm also frequently trains clients’ staff on compliance with the Texas Public Information Act, especially regarding the law’s fast-paced deadlines and affirmative obligations to promptly provide requestors with public information.
