Student Matters

SNLL understands the complexities and responsibilities that public schools and educational institutions face in addressing student-related legal issues.

Our attorneys routinely advise clients on student issues such as free speech, discrimination, bullying and harassment, disability-related services, privacy, religion, and discipline matters. The Firm assists clients with student grievances related to a variety of issues including class rank, extracurricular eligibility, and DAEP/expulsion hearings or similar student disciplinary hearings. The Firm’s attorneys have significant experience defending schools and school officials in litigation, including claims under Title IX, Section 504, Section 1983, and the IDEA.

SNLL attorneys work with public entities to develop and revise practices and procedures that promote a safe and inclusive educational environment while protecting the rights of all students. SNLL also provides training sessions for educators and administrators on legal compliance, best practices in student discipline, and handling sensitive student-related issues including safety and security of a school and protection of confidential student information.
